When does one begin to find oneself as an artist, and how can one start to work locally?
Here in Finland, one of the ways is to become a member of an art association. For example, Northern Ostrobothnia and Kainuu regions have Oulu Art association which actively works with local artists and offers many different kinds of activities in the field of visual arts.
This exhibition introduces the 12 artists who became the new members of Oulu Art association in autumn 2014 and year 2015. Some of them are full-time artists. One is working as an editor in television, some lead a life of retirement and some already built long careers as artists. The difference in their ages is 35 years and every artist has her/his own reason, way and concept of working on art.
This exhibition focuses on the history of each artist, which was built by dialogues between the curator and artist. By offering glimpses of the artists’ lives, the exhibition takes you on a journey to see the past, present and future of the new members.
